DIY Geek Soap (spoiler alert: Ice Cube Trays)

DIY Geek Soaps - Our Nerd Home

You might have noticed our DIY geek soap making spree on our Instagram a few weeks ago. Want to make your own?

We actually did this tutorial for our new partnership with Popsugar, so if you want the full tutorial, head over here to check it out. And by “full tutorial” we basically mean a few easy steps, since we did NOT make this soap base from scratch and just bought the easy microwavable kind from the craft store to then melt into geek ice cube trays (thanks for the idea, Martha Stewart!). We’ve seen a few of our online-friends making DIY geek ice cube tray soaps too, so if you have some of your own you’d like to share, let us know and we’ll add them to this post. 🙂

Head over to Popsugar to read all about these, including how to make the elusive grey colored soap. 🙂

Love this idea! We received a bunch of Star Wars ice cube trays as a housewarming gift, and I wasn’t really sure what to do with them (as I’m too lazy to fill up ice trays).

I think they are awesome, that’s what I think! And good future Christmas presents also! I hope my daughter doesn’t read this comment, haha!

I could have sworn I’d commented on here earlier … but whether or not the universe has eaten my previous message, these soaps are awesome! We have a ton of nerdy ice-cube trays, but we just don’t use ice that much! I definitely want to give this a try ^____^

can you still use the trays for ice (or food) after this project? I like to use my geeky ice trays as chocolate molds

As long as the soap base is non toxic (which I would assume almost all soaps are?), if it’s washed out extremely well, I don’t see why the molds couldn’t then be used for chocolate! We keep 2 sets of our favorite ice cube trays though – one for ice/chocolate, and one for crafts.
