DIY Portal Lemon-Ade Wall Display (Other People’s Nerd Homes)

DIY Portal Combustible Lemon

Inspired by one of the best speeches in videogame history (<3 Portal 2), our blogger-friend RaChil from The Cwafty Blog made this awesome DIY Portal wall display/shelf.

In Portal 2, Cave Johnson (JK Simmons) gave this fantastic speech:

“When life gives you lemons, don’t make lemonade. Make life take the lemons back! Get mad! I don’t want your damn lemons, what the hell am I supposed to do with these? Demand to see life’s manager! Make life rue the day it thought it could give Cave Johnson lemons! Do you know who I am? I’m the man who’s gonna burn your house down! With the lemons! I’m gonna get my engineers to invent a combustible lemon that burns your house down!”

RaChil went ahead and did what needed to be done. She made a combustible lemon. Lemonade grenade. Lemon-ade. So now we want to do the same, so that when life hands us lemons, we break the glass, grab our lemon-ade, and burn that [expletive?] down. Or at least we plan to ask for life’s manager.

Don’t worry, it’s not a real lemon, it won’t get moldy, and you can get the full tutorial here. While you’re there, also check out her other Portal DIY goodness, like this Companion Cube pop-up card.

Some of our own Portal projects/posts can be found here (DIY Portal pendant lamp), here (DIY Portal dishes), here (Portal fabric), and here (Portal LEGO diorama). Yeah… we kind of love those games. It’s hard to find great local co-op games.

Any other Portal lovers around?

That was one of the best parts of Portal 2, and this little lemon is effing cute. Not only cute but really slick too, subversive art.

  2. Stephanie says

So cute but on reflection shouldn’t it have sugar and water? Or have the tools needed to make the lemons into the grenades?

What do you think?
