Happy New Year!! We’re pretty excited about 2015, both in our “real” lives, and in our blog world. Exciting things to come! We want to say thank you to everyone who has stopped by this past year, and share what you turned into our top 7 most popular geek DIY posts of 2014.
Before we get into that, are you making any New Year resolutions? We normally don’t, but this year we’re definitely writing down some 2015 goals. Most of our goals are professional (dealing with filmmaking), some are regarding our personal lives (occasionally putting down the xbox controller and doing more socializing), and others deal with Our Nerd Home (less project procrastination! More posts!).
Speaking of posts… (bad segue, sorry), here are the top 7 Our Nerd Home geek DIY posts of 2014, rated by popularity:
1. DIY Geek Dishes. We were kind of surprised that this turned out to be by far our most popular post of the year! A few hundred thousand people checked this one out, and we appreciate it. We also love seeing your own versions of this project.
2. DIY Borderlands Claptrap trash can. This is one of our favorite projects! He came with us to our new house, and still acts as our recycling bin.
3. DIY Star Wars Wampa Head Taxidermy. We knew this one was a little “out there”, and didn’t know how popular the post would be, but we LOVE this guy and were really excited to see that other people liked him too. He hangs over the desk in our office now, and has held together well (even through a move), especially considering he’s basically a furry cardboard box. 😉
4. Easy DIY Geek Art (+ 32 Geeky Love Quotes). We almost didn’t include this project on this list, since we can assume more people go to the post for the geek love quotes than the quick DIY project… but you never know. 🙂
5. DIY Geek Pillows. (#5 would technically be the DIY Death Star globe, but that’s more of a round-up post, so we’ll give it an honorable mention instead). Anyway, these pillows have held up through MANY washings (delicate cycle) and are still going strong. They sometimes pop up in the background of our instagram dog posts.
6. DIY Tetris Shelves. We cut quite a few corners making these, but they are still alive and well! They’re bedroom art now, holding a few of our smaller toys action figures.
7. The list rounds out with one of our newer projects – the DIY Doctor Who Tom Baker rug. This has moved to the most high traffic area in our house, and has been spot cleaned a couple of times (one of our pups got sick on it), and besides some minor fading, it’s holding up well!
And that’s our top 7, based on popularity (we did seven because 2+0+1+4).
Happy happy 2015 to all of our blog readers and friends. You’re part of what made our 2014 pretty special. 🙂 Is there anything you’re most looking forward to in 2015, or any resolutions you’d like to share?

January 1, 2015 at 8:06 amHappy New Year you two! I can’t wait to see what we’re both going to create in 2015.
I’ve got a resolution to create more art this year and to get some pen-pals because I’ve started reading a few snail mail blogs.

January 5, 2015 at 9:10 pmThese projects are so great! The plates are definitely in my future, and seem like a fun gift idea! I love the tip for making a grid on the wood to make measuring easier…kinda feels like playing Tetris while you’re making Tetris shelves for your Tetris art (Tetris Inception, if you will).
